24فَما كانَ جَوابَ قَومِهِ إِلّا أَن قالُوا اقتُلوهُ أَو حَرِّقوهُ فَأَنجاهُ اللَّهُ مِنَ النّارِ ۚ إِنَّ في ذٰلِكَ لَآياتٍ لِقَومٍ يُؤمِنونَMuhammad AsadNOW [as for Abraham,] his people's only answer was,1 "Slay him, or burn him!" - but God saved him from the fire.2 Behold, in this [story] there are messages indeed for people who will believe!Lit., "the answer of his people was nothing but that they said" - thus connecting with the passage ending with verse 18.See note 64 on 21:69.
