Sura 7
Aya 71
71

Muhammad Asad

Said [Hud]: "You are already beset by loathsome evil1 and by your Sustainer's condemnation! Do you argue with me about the [empty] names which you have invented2 - you and your forefathers - for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high? Wait, then, [for what will happen:] verily, I shall wait with you!"3
  • A reference to their idolatry and obstinacy.
  • Lit., "names which you have named"- i.e., the false deities, which have no real existence.
  • Lit., "I shall be, together with you, among those who wait."
