Sura 33
Aya 6
6

Ali Quli Qarai

The Prophet is closer to the faithful than their own souls,1 and his wives are their mothers. The blood relatives are more entitled to inherit from one another in the Book of Allah2 than the [other] faithful and Emigrants,3 barring any favour you may do your comrades.4 This has been written in the Book.
  • Or ‘The Prophet has a greater right (or a greater authority) over the faithful than they have over their own selves.’
  • That is, with respect to the right of inheritance.
  • Or ‘The blood relations have a greater right to inherit from one another than the rest of the faithful and Emigrants.’
  • That is, by making a bequest in their favour.
