5 Preface ما لَهُم بِهِ مِن عِلمٍ وَلا لِآبائِهِم ۚ كَبُرَت كَلِمَةً تَخرُجُ مِن أَفواهِهِم ۚ إِن يَقولونَ إِلّا كَذِبًاYusuf AliNo knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying.1 What they say is nothing but falsehood! The attribution of a son “begotten” to God has no basis in fact or in reason. It is only a “word” or “saying” that issues out of their mouths. It is not even a dogma that is reasoned out or can be explained in any way that is consistent with the sublime attributes of God. (R).
