Chapter 92

The Nightal-Layl ( الليل )

»The surah that opens with the oath of the Divine One swearing by the whelming of The Night that swathes the world in darkness. It is named after “the night” (al-layl), mentioned in verse 1. The surah shows the consequences of the paths people choose and emphasizing God’s guidance and warning.«

بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ

وَاللَّيلِ إِذا يَغشىٰ

By1 the Night when it spreadeth its evil!
  • Three things are brought into evidence viz., the Night, the Day and the Phenomenon of Sex Differences. Each of the things, is opposed in its qualities to the other. The darkness of the night is a contrast to the light of the day and two kinds of sexes are the opposites of one another. This contrast in the qualities of the three things is an illustration to what is said in the fourth verse.
