18ثُمَّ جَعَلناكَ عَلىٰ شَريعَةٍ مِنَ الأَمرِ فَاتَّبِعها وَلا تَتَّبِع أَهواءَ الَّذينَ لا يَعلَمونَAli UnalThereafter (in this conclusive Revelation), We have set you on a way of life (Sharī‘ah) based on the Religion,1 so follow it and do not follow the lusts and fancies of those who do not know (the Divine Guidance).Some think and claim that the Sharī’ah consists in the assembly of the Islamic (social, economic, and political) laws. However, these laws were laid down in Madīnah, and this sūrah was revealed in Makkah. Sūrah Shūrā (no. 42), which mentions the Sharī’ah in its thirteenth verse, was also revealed in Makkah. So the Sharī’ah is the practical aspect of the Religion of Islam, and also includes the rules of worship.
