15هٰؤُلاءِ قَومُنَا اتَّخَذوا مِن دونِهِ آلِهَةً ۖ لَولا يَأتونَ عَلَيهِم بِسُلطانٍ بَيِّنٍ ۖ فَمَن أَظلَمُ مِمَّنِ افتَرىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًاMuhammad AsadThese people of ours have taken to worshipping [other] deities instead of Him, without being able to1 adduce any reasonable evidence in support of their beliefs;2 and who could be more wicked than he who invents a lie about God?3Lit., "Why do they not...", etc., in the form of a rhetorical query introducing a new sentence.Lit., "any clear evidence [or "authority"] in their support". The adjective bayyin ("clear", "obvious", "manifest") implies an evidence accessible to reason.I.e., invents imaginary deities and thus gives the lie to the truth of His oneness and uniqueness, or even denies His existence altogether.
