The Quran

وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِن أَنفُسِكُم أَزواجًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِن أَزواجِكُم بَنينَ وَحَفَدَةً وَرَزَقَكُم مِنَ الطَّيِّباتِ ۚ أَفَبِالباطِلِ يُؤمِنونَ وَبِنِعمَتِ اللَّهِ هُم يَكفُرونَ

Muhammad Asad

And God has given you mates of your own kinds¹ and has given you, through your mates, children and children's children, and has provided for you sustenance out of the good things of life. Will men,² then, [continue to] believe in things false and vain, and thus blaspheme against God's blessings? -

Lit., "has made [or "provided"] for you mates out of yourselves". The term zawj denotes not only "a pair" or "a couple" but also - as in this instance - "one of a pair" or "a mate" of the opposite sex; hence, with reference to human beings, the plural azwaj signifies both "husbands" and "wives".
Lit., "they", i.e., those who deny the truth of God's existence and/or oneness.
