Chapter 97

The Ordainmental-Qadr ( القدر )

»The surah that mentions the moment in which God first revealed the Quran, calling it The Ordainment. It is named after the phrase “the night of ordainment” (laylay al-qadr), mentioned in verse 1. The surah celebrates the night when the first revelation of the Quran was sent down.«

The surah is also known as Determination, Honour, Power, The Glory, The Night of Empowering Decree, The Night of Glory, The Night of Power

بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ

Uzunoglu et al.: In the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Compassionate.,

إِنّا أَنزَلناهُ في لَيلَةِ القَدرِ

Uzunoglu et al.

This sūrah refers to the night on which the Prophet began receiving the verses of the Qur’ān.
We have sent it [the Qur’ān] down on the Night of Influence.
