Say: ‘Are you waiting for simply one of the two good fortunes in our favour (i.e. victory or martyrdom: whether we are martyred or return victorious)? And we are waiting in your favour (in view of your hypocrisy) to see Allah afflict you with (special) torment either from Himself or at our hands. So wait. We (too) are waiting with you (to see whose wait comes out to be productive).’
