Muhammad AsadDo you [O believers] think that you will be spared1 unless God takes cognizance of your having striven hard [in His cause]2 without seeking help from any but God and His Apostle and those who believe in Him?3 For, God is aware of all that you do.Lit., "left [alone]", i.e., without being tried by means of suffering and hardship.Lit., "while God has not yet taken cognizance of those of you who have striven hard". For an explanation of God's "taking cognizance", see 3:142 and the corresponding note.Lit., "without having taken any intimate helper (walijah) other than God and His Apostle and the believers".
