Sura 8
Aya 7
7

N. J. Dawood

God promised you victory over one of the two bands, but it was your wish to take possession of the one that was unarmed.1 God wished to vindicate the truth by His words and to rout the unbelievers,
  • Muḥammad’s plan was to attach an unarmed caravan belonging to the Quraysh of Mecca on its way from Syria to that city. An army of Meccans marched to its assistance. Some of the Muslims wished to attach the caravan, others the Meccan army. Muḥammad forces, only 319 strong, routed the Meccans, who were nearly 1,000 in numbers.
