(Their plight) resembles those who have tasted the evil consequences of their doings shortly before them (i.e. the idolaters of Makka in Badr and Banu Nadir, Banu Qainuqa‘ and Banu Quraiza of the Jews, etc.). And there is for them grievous punishment (in the Hereafter as well).
