81وَلَو كانوا يُؤمِنونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالنَّبِيِّ وَما أُنزِلَ إِلَيهِ مَا اتَّخَذوهُم أَولِياءَ وَلٰكِنَّ كَثيرًا مِنهُم فاسِقونَMuhammad AsadFor, if they [truly] believed in God and their Prophet1 and all that was bestowed upon him from on high, they would not take those [deniers of the truth] for their allies: but most of them are iniquitous.Lit., "the Prophet". According to Zamakhshari and Razi, the prophet referred to is Moses, whom the Jews claim to follow - a claim which the Qur'an denies by implication.
