34 Preface وَيَومَ يُعرَضُ الَّذينَ كَفَروا عَلَى النّارِ أَلَيسَ هٰذا بِالحَقِّ ۖ قالوا بَلىٰ وَرَبِّنا ۚ قالَ فَذوقُوا العَذابَ بِما كُنتُم تَكفُرونَYusuf AliAnd on the Day that1 the Unbelievers will be placed before the Fire, (they will be asked,) “Is this not the Truth?” they will say, “Yea, by our Lord!” (One will say:) “Then taste ye2 the Penalty, for that ye were wont to deny (Truth)!”Cf. 46:20, where the argument was closed about the undutiful son of a good father. After that the example of ‘Ād and of the believing Jinns was cited, and now is closed that argument in similar terms.The Truth which they denied is now all too clear to them. They are out of the Light of Truth, out of the Light of God’s Countenance. And that in itself is a terrible Penalty.
