67 Preface وَلَو نَشاءُ لَمَسَخناهُم عَلىٰ مَكانَتِهِم فَمَا استَطاعوا مُضِيًّا وَلا يَرجِعونَAli Quli QaraiAnd had We wished We would have deformed them in their place;1 then they would have neither been able to go ahead nor to go back.2 That is, brought them to a standstill with their deformed inner state.That is, they would have neither been able to move ahead to make spiritual progress, nor to return to their original state of unsullied God-given nature.
