29 Preface ثُمَّ ليَقضوا تَفَثَهُم وَليوفوا نُذورَهُم وَليَطَّوَّفوا بِالبَيتِ العَتيقِAli Quli QaraiThen let them do away with their untidiness,1 and fulfill their vows, and go around the Ancient House.2 According to the commentators, the phrase li yaqḍū tafathahum implies egress from the state of iḥrām (after the shortening of the hair or the nails, and the bath), and relief from its restrictions. Or it means ‘let them perform their rites.’Or, ‘the Free House,’ that is, free from bondage of anyone’s ownership.
