(O Beloved!) Have you not seen the group of the Children of Israel who came after Musa (Moses)? When they said to their Prophet: ‘Appoint for us a king so that we may fight in the cause of Allah (under his command),’ the Prophet said (to them): ‘What, if you desist from fighting once it is prescribed for you!’ They said: ‘What ails us that we should not fight in the cause of Allah when we have been driven away from our homes and children?’ But when fighting was made obligatory for them, all of them turned away, except a few. And Allah knows the wrongdoers full well.
