Sura 2
Aya 173
173

Ali Quli Qarai

He has forbidden you only carrion, blood, the flesh of the swine, and that which has been offered to other than Allah. But should someone be compelled, without being rebellious or aggressive,1 there shall be no sin upon him. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
  • According to some exegetical traditions, bāghī refers to one who rebels against a just ruler (according to another interpretation, to a hunter), and ʿādī refers to a thief or highwayman (see Ṭabarī, Rāzī, al-Tafsīr al-Burhān). Cf. 6:145; 16:115.
