Sura 2
Aya 104
104

Ali Quli Qarai

O you who have faith! Do not say Raʿinā, but say Unzurnā, and listen!1 And there is a painful punishment for the faithless.
  • The Jews in ridiculing the Prophet would say rāʿinā [meaning, ‘have regard for us’] with a change of accent turning it into another word which made it a term of reproach. The muslims are told to say unzurnā [meaning, ‘give us a little respite’] instead while addressing the Prophet (), as there is no room in this term for such a distortion.
