Yusuf AliTo the ‘Ād People (We sent) Hud, one of their own brethren. He said: “O my people! worship God. ye have no other god but Him.1 (Your other gods) ye do nothing but invent!Cf. the story of Hud the Messenger to the ‘Ād People, in 7:65-72. There the argument was how other Peoples treated their prophets as the Meccans were treating al Muṣṭafā. Here we see another point emphasised: the insolence of ‘Ād in obstinately adhering to false gods after the true God had been preached to them, God’s long-suffering grace to them, and finally God’s justice in bringing them to book while the righteous were saved. The locality in which ‘Ād flourished is indicated in n. 1040 to 7:65.
