We sent to you [Muhammad] the Scripture with the truth, confirming the Scriptures that came before it, and with final authority over them: so judge between them according to what God has sent down. Do not follow their whims, which deviate from the truth that has come to you. We have assigned a law and a path to each of you. So it is those who believe him, honour and help him, and who follow the light which has been sent down with him, who will succeed.’ — Abdel Haleem

˹These are˺ the ones who shall follow the ˹last˺ Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, ˹Muhammad—he˺ whom they find inscribed in the Torah ˹that is˺ with them and ˹in˺ the Evangel; ˹he˺ who enjoins them with what is right and forbids them from what is wrong, making lawful for them wholesome things, and prohibiting for hem impure things; and relieving them from the burden ˹of strict obligation˺ and the yokes ˹of oppression˺ that were ˹before laid˺ upon them. Praise be to God, who sent down the Scripture to His servant and made it unerringly straight, warning of severe punishment from Him, and [giving] glad news to the believers who do good deeds—an excellent reward — Abdel Haleem

All praise is for God ˹alone˺, the One who has sent down the ˹Heavenly˺ Book upon His servant ˹Muhammad˺, and who did not appoint any crookedness to ˹be part of˺ it! It is an upright ˹guide˺ to forewarn ˹the ungodly˺ of a mighty chastisement ˹in the Hereafter˺ from ˹God˺ Himself, and to give glad tidings ˹of everlasting delight in Paradise˺ to their believers—those who do righteous deeds—that for them there is an excellent reward ˹awaiting there˺. — Ahmad Zaki

All praise belongs to Allah, who has sent down the Book to His servant and did not let any crookedness be in it, [a Book] upright, to warn of a severe punishment from Him, and to give good news to the faithful who do righteous deeds, that there shall be for them a good reward, — Ali Quli Qarai

Quran

Qurʾān, Qur'an, Quran, Quraan, Koran, Coran

There are several opinions about the etymology of the word “Qurān” or “Qurʾān”. Some argues that it is derived from qara’a, which means “to read”. This will render the verbal noun Quran as “the reading”. Others have suggested that Quran was from the root qarana which means “to combine” or “to associate”. Thus the Quran was so named because it is formed from the combination of surahs (sections, often called chapters). Even others suggested that the word Quran, just like Tawrat (Tawrah or Taurat: that is the Quranic word for the Torah) and Injil (the Quranic word for the Gospel of Jesus), was a proper noun that was not derived from any word, and denoted the speech of God. Even others argued that the Quran was derived from the word qara’in meaning “to resemble”; it is called so, because its verses resemble one another in eloqouence.

According to some of these definitions, Qurʾān should be pronounced as Qurān, that is, without the hamza (Arabic letter that represents a glottal stop, normally transliterated as a simple apostrophe / ’ / or modifier letter right half ring / ʾ /).

In the Quran itself, the word Qurʾān (i.e. with the hamza) refers to the revelation of God in the broad sense and is not always restricted to mean a book – this only as a revelation from God to Prophet Muhammad.

The name Quran is mentioned 58 times in the Quran and is the most common name for this Scripture, both in hadith-literature (plural: hadith, hadiths, or ahadith: a saying, act or tacit approval ascribed to the Islamic prophet Muhammad and later written down) and conventional speech among Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

Foreign speech to an Arab?’ Say, ‘It is guidance and healing for those who have faith, but the ears of the disbelievers are heavy, they are blind to it, it is as if they are being called from a distant place.’ — Abdel Haleem

Thus even if We had made this Quran ˹a Heavenly Recitation revealed to you as a sign˺ in an alien tongue, they would ˹yet˺ say: If only its verses had been made lucidly distinct ˹in Arabic! Would God reveal His Book in˺ an alien tongue, while ˹the messenger is˺ an Arab? Had We made it a non-Arabic Qurʾān, they would have surely said, ‘Why have not its signs been articulated?’ ‘What!
