5وَالَّذينَ سَعَوا في آياتِنا مُعاجِزينَ أُولٰئِكَ لَهُم عَذابٌ مِن رِجزٍ أَليمٌMuhammad Asadwhereas for those who strive against Our messages, seeking to defeat their purpose, there is grievous suffering in store as an outcome of [their] vileness.1The particle min (lit., "out of") which precedes the noun rijz ("vileness" or "vile conduct") indicates that the suffering which awaits such sinners in the life to come is an organic consequence of their deliberately evil conduct in this world.
