When Our Revelations clear as evidence and in meaning are recited to them (the Makkan polytheists), they say: “This is but a man who wants to bar you from what your forefathers used to worship.” They also say (of the Qur’an): “This is nothing but a fabrication falsely attributed to God.” Those who disbelieve say of the truth when it has reached them (in willful defiance of its clarity): “This is clearly nothing but sorcery.”
